Feed our children this Mandela Day

According to a survey recently released by Statistics South Africa, 683 221 households with children aged five years or younger reported experiencing hunger in 2021. This is alarming considering that early childhood development and nutrition are intrinsically connected.

This is why Legacy Pride, a registered NPC and Legacy Group initiative, is calling on South Africans to help with its ongoing quest to feed children in need. Guests staying at any Legacy Hotels & Resorts property, plus any person or business looking to support a charity on an on-going basis, can contribute with a donation of their choice via the Legacy Pride online portal here.  In addition to donations, South Africans can also purchase a Legacy Pride soft toy which are available on Takealot here or at the various Legacy Hotels & Resorts’ properties. The Legacy Pride soft toys are not just incredibly cute and cuddly, but are also eco-friendly and locally made. Stuffed with super soft fibres made from recycled plastic bottles, collected from local communities within South Africa, they come in a range of different species; lion, leopard, cheetah, elephant, giraffe, zebra, buffalo and rhino. Funds raised from the donations and sale of soft toys are then invested back into the local communities in which Legacy operates, through the purchase and distribution of Future Life’s nutritional Smart Food™ products.

Some of the charities that Legacy Pride supports include:

• The Teddy Bear Clinic – Gauteng

• New Beginningz Baby Haven – Gauteng

• Alexandra Child Care and Support Centre – Gauteng

• Rays of Hope – Gauteng

• Ikageng - Gauteng

• SizaBantwana – Hazyview, Mpumalanga

• Bphemelele Children's Home – Western Cape

• Heartlands Baby Sanctuary – Western Cape

• Dimakatso Safe House – North West

“Mandela Day is a time for giving and so we are appealing to South Africans to either donate funds or purchase a toy that will gift some good to another in need. By helping feed these children, we can prevent the serious long-term side effects that hunger and malnutrition can have,” says Hara Jackson, Sales Director of Legacy Hotels & Resorts.

Outside of Mandela Day, Legacy Pride and Future Life® have entered into an ongoing partnership to fight the scourge of world hunger and malnutrition. Both organisations share the same passion of leaving an actual legacy for the future and recognize the importance of investing in the health and wellbeing of our greatest resource – our children.
